Ma and Pa Quail Birds and a baseball cap full of Iddy Bitty Babies was seen by this scribler this week crossing a ladies well mowed lawn, herding the little ones tward a broom sage field with a small creek in the bottom. They are slowly coming back. The Earth Worms are coming back too. The beaver and the earth worm give us more top soil than any two critters that I know of.
The 4 new ramps will be done in time for the October B.A.S.S. tournament, so the grape vine tells me. So, will the rest rooms????
For those tournament fishermen who know Jackie Hamric and believe in prayer, offer one up for his family. He passed Saterday while his son was winning the Backwoods Outdoors Tournament with 28.75 lbs. of Bass.
The Bream, Crackers, Catfish and Crappie has been the fish to try this week. Bass has been slow as writen home for money.
Many Catfish was taken along with the others I mentioned. Crickets, worms and minnows took em very easy, course, some folks do good on jigs all the time.
The Backwoods Outdoors had 54 boats launch out of Wingate’s on Saterday. Brad Hamric and Clark Bass won 1st place with 28.75 lbs. Ty and Sandy Solis won 2nd with 23.75 lbs. Bill Reynolds and Scott Barefoot won 3rd with 22.25 lbs. Stewart and Creel won 4th with 21.70 lbs., they also had the Big Fish with an 8.96 pounder. Very few fish was lost.
Many years ago before cell phones, Mrs. Hamric, (Jackie’s mother) called Wingates and ask to speak to me. Soon as I heard her voice I knew something was wrong. She sed, Mr. Wingate, if you know where Jackie and Bill is fishen, please go tell him to come home, his father is dead. I jumped into Ole Red, my ’72 Ranger and off to Fort Scott Island and there they set. A sad trip it was.
The C&R was held Sunday at Wingate’s. Matt Baty and Chris Blackmon took first with 19.55 lbs. and Big Fish at 5.75 lbs., McCord and Edmonson took second with 17.2 lbs. and Paul Tyre and Nic Jeter took third with 13.5 lbs. I think these were the liveliest fish I’ve seen in a good while.
