Bill Allen, a young man when I first met (15 years ago) him, has set a record on fish catching this past fall and so far this spring. Late last November, he hooked and landed a 30 lbs. Striper here in Lake Seminole, 3 weeks ago he hooked and landed a 12.72 lbs. Black Bass here, then last Wednesday, he hooked and landed a 40 lbs. Red Fish in the Panacea area of the Gulf. He released them all. I mite say that many men live out their lives and never even come close to catching this weight of fish. All of these came on Mann products.
One of the most interesting catches of fish this week came on the Noodlin method of fishen using cheap weiners as bait. One boat came out with 80 lbs. of Blue cat from the Flint River. This type of Noodlin is not where you get in the water, stick your hands up in holes in the bank and logs that have holes in them, but using plastic floats and short lines with the bait about 2 to 3 ft. deep. Works better on high water.
The Jack Wingate Thursday Night Big Fish Tournament got underway this week in earnest. Matt Neal and Josh Thompson won it with a 6.26 pounder taking home a good prize. Only the Big Fish counts.
There has been some fine Crappie taken here this week. One boat took 100 in 3 half days fishen up in the Faceville Landing area. Mostly on Jigs and a few on Minnows.
Tis a bit of history that I give you now. Sgt. Mims of Henry Co., AL, drove General Patton’s Jeep from 1940 to 1945 and is buried in Henry Co. Noah Edison Davis drove for General Patton in France. He just passed 2 months ago and is buried near the Thomas County line and Grady County line. What great memories they must have had.
The Flint River seems to have the coldest water of the entire lake. Randy Weaver sez he caught a Bass in it with long handles on!
Paul Tyre reported Black Crappie on the banks this week bedding.
Charlie Hill took a 9 ¾ lbs. Bass from the Flint, 18 ft. deep. She was flabby, laid out of eggs and hungry. She took a Trap.
Hayley, age 5, with one of the many big cats she caught on Sunday.
