Seminole Ramlin's

May 29, 2005

For those who mite travel the road thru Ariton and have a minute to spare, stop at Jerry’s small engine repair. Mr. Jerry will show you the world’s record Shellcracker. A whopping 5.3 lbs. caught in 1985 and was just beat out by a Carolina fish 3 oz. bigger. He was caught by Mr. Jerry’s father, C.L. Whindom, in Merritt’s Mill Pond near Maryanna, FL. One day I will stop by and visit Mr. Jerry’s place and feast my eyes on a champ.

We have been having a very good week on Bass this week, but the best news we’ve had is Todd Nedley, who Friday took a 9 lbs. Bass on a Spinner Bait and on Saterday morning, John Cofty, Jr. took a 9.7 lbs. Bass on a Booger Man Spinner Bait. They will be contenders in any tournament with catches like that.

Those that mite have some emagination mite want to try the building of a better life preserver. “BASS” will pay $5000.00 for the winner, provided it passes Coast Guard rules.

Speaking of rats, one of Lake Seminoles Big Heros, Mrs. Lucie Mize won the ladies Bass Tournement here on our lake. Her husband and son are all on the tournement trails. Her son in practice noticed a rat’s tail sticking out of a Bass’s mouth. Next day was tournement day. He went back to his spot and at the weigh in, his bag held 2 rats, the finel day his bag again held 2 rats, only one of them was a 6 inch warf rat. That rats weight, not in the fishes belly caused to miss the cut. Rats, Rats, Rats!

The Bream and Catfish has bit for the fishermen this week. Very good catches of Perch also came in. Young Mr. Hunter Logue, of Bainbridge, caught a huge Speck on Friday morning. His dad, Chris Logue brought him and friend out fishing before work Friday morning. But, the catfish has been the big winner. We have had some awesome catches of Cats biting Crickets. Wigglers will get-em too.

In the early 1920’s, Mr. Heddon of Heddon Lures was invited to come to Pensacola Bay by a Navy Captain to fish the Choctohachie Bay. They did and Mr. Heddon was fishen a Zara Spook type of bait and was outcatching the Captain. Mr. Heddon let him use the Lure, the Captain sed, “This Lure has more action than the ladies along Zara Goza Street!” That street was the Red Lite District in Pensacola. Nuff sed.
