Seminole Ramlin's

March 13, 2005

We got word from the Bass’n Gals whose 2 day tournement ended Saterday nite and here is the way we heard it ended. Sherri Glascow of OK took first place with 19.22 and our own Mrs. Pam Marten Wells finished second with 16.55. Mrs. Barbra Wachter finished first in the amatur side. She has helped bring the tournements to Bainbridge since the days when Col. Tom Larson was director of the Chamber of Commerce on East Shotwell Street.

The first day of the Jack Wingate Open Team Tournament was like this. In gusts of wind at 35 miles per hour, the team of Merritt and Key weighed in 27.59 lbs. of Bass. They also had the Big Fish at 7.11 lbs. The team of Howell and Singletary had 23.71 for a close second.

On the second day, Merritt and Key won the whole thing with 53 lbs. total and had Big Fish both days with a 6.4 lbs. on Sunday.

We make this note in our Ramlins today because of it’s self explanatory nature. Fairielie and Russell Lowe lived together 72 years and never spent one night apart. Mr. Russell outlived Mrs. Fairielie by 5 years and passed this past week at 102 ¾ years.

We checked the Fla. Bass Federation Tournement Sunday afternoon and was suprized at the nice fish weighed in Sunday after 121 zero’s on the board Saterday. It seems as though David Johnson won the 2 day event with a total of 38.28 lbs. of fine Seminole Bass. We have pic’s of him and 2 of his big fish.

One of the great things we noticed was that Leon Roy VI was there with his mother and father still trying to pick out a boat as a training toy. Fine kids.

As I watched one of the weigh ins an osprey swooped down to the water and water hycinths and came up with a 2 ft. long snake. Time to warn the kids to stay close and watch their feet. A 5 ½ foot rattler was killed here in our area Tuesday.

The Specks has been coming in good numbers. They are good hand sized Perch and they do eat good, dog bite if they don’t. Some in 2 feet, some in 8 ft. All are jist as fat as can be.

Bass beds were seen with fish on them Sunday. Good hearty Bass.

There was water at 69° found on the lake Sunday. It’s all jist about to bust open for Spring Fishen!

Jim Merritt and Brian Key of Bainbridge with some of the Big Bass they caught in the Jack Wingate Open held at Wingates on Saturday and Sunday

David Johnson with a couple of Bass from the Federation Tournament.
