Seminole Ramlin's

August 21, 2005

A point in history, how Jim Woodruff Lake was renamed Lake Seminole. When Jim Woodruff Dam was dedicated, “Wingate’s Barbeque” served the dedication on the site. With the dedication on site, Mr. Woodruff himself was there, the Governors of 3 states was there along with several Senators and local polititions as could fit on the platform. It was officially named “Jim Woodruff Lake”.

Very soon the County Commision or Seminole Co. and the city of Donelsonville, very quietly had a bill passed in Atlanta to rename the lake to Lake Seminole. At the dedecation of the name changing, decendents of Billy Bowlegs, the only true Chief of the Seminole blood line, was there with a whole lot of men and ladies of the Seminole Tribe in their full skirts and blouses with beads aplenty.

A point to remember, the real Seminole nation was undefeated and still remains in Florida. The rest went to Oklahoma, where they still remain, defeated.

We mite note that when you kill one muskeeto, 1,000 comes to his funeral. It’s true.

Mr. Larry Pittman and Mr. Vernon Howell of Valdosta, who are guests in the campground here at Wingates, has a nack of finding the Catfish of Lake Seminole. They’ve brung in a cooler half full of 4 and 5 pounders and a whopping big 22 pounder was on top. You take a 22 lb. Channell Cat and he’ll teach you a lesson on how to keep a rod up and not let the fish git a straight down pull on the rod. If you do, he’ll bust most tackle.

Bream and Catfish is the talk of the landing these days. They are the best bet for a good catch of fish. The Perch is a thing gone by but they will come back very soon.
