Seminole Ramlin's April 3, 2005 Now that the lady who got me good about trollin for beaver here in the canal at Wingates is now in my debt. I’ll try to explain. Coming to work on her 3 wheel moped at the crack of dawn, a big tom turkey with an 11 or 12 inch beard and spurs so long they were hitten each other as it walked across the road in front of her, she parked the moped and took off after the tom and almost got him as he got entangled in a briar patch. The moral of this story, do you have to have a license to chase turkeys afoot? Hats off to the two men in Decatur County who have made the grade in p-nut farming. Mr. Griffen, who produced 4,895 on 1410 acres and Mr. Greene who produces 5,076 on 251 acres. It’s like Jerry Clower sez, “Mr. American Farmer does his work, if the furrin country wants to learn how to farm, he must come to America to learn how.” The same goes for the cheese factory in Thomas County. Goats milk and it’s just great. The weekend produced many amazing results. The Saterday White City Winter Trail Carman McLamore won it with 17.0 lbs., Bobby Smith was second with 15 lbs. The Madison County Bass Club (Fla.), in Saterday and ½ day Sunday weighed in 23.02. Doug Bernard with Big Fish at 6 ½ lbs. of fish. Them folks was fishen in small boats and some bass boats, but they caught some fish. The Tri-States fished but with poor results. Reggie Calhoun and Britney won the event, with Richard Predmore having Big Fish. The Coblen Family of Seminole, AL with 5 fishing took 21 Bass, 2 at 8 lbs. A 7 year-old girl caught 6, a 10 year-old boy had 6 Bass on the boat. Durin the week, one neighbor invited me to a fish fry, another neighbor brung a sack of rutabagas, whilst another brung me a 3 lbs. Jack fish of which was still floppin. Time I got the scales off and him filad, I had gashed him and rolled him in sweet milk and into the flour, then into the hot grease. With half a cup of ketchup, I et the whole thing. Tommy and James Lipscom of Auburn, AL took a very good string of fish on plastic with Allen Carter as boat handler. What a catch of fish, 16 all together. Perch has been taken all week on Jigs. Some up to 1 ½ lbs. and many hand sized to be sure. They are fitten to eat. The picture is of James and Tommy Lipscom
of Auburn, AL with some nice Bass they caught. For more of Jack's writing see his books, available only at Wingate's
