Seminole Ramlin's December 12, 2004
Having just heard from an avid duck hunter who, with 5 others had a lousy trip to Arkansas, and another on Lake Seminole this past Saterday morning, who with his son had 1 Ringneck in his set of Decoys, both shot and missed. A bad season so far and I haven’t heard from the church hunters yet.
Well, let me tell you, cold weather lets them change their habits, and with this let me warn you Duck Hunters in a storm or just weather, be prepared as the Boy Scouts are at all times. Matches for a fire, some dry wood or our new pressed wood log and a blanket or windbreaker of some kind.
The November 11, 1920 storm in Minnisota, many ignored the worning signs of an approaching winter storm and went duck hunting instead, but by noon, 80 MPH winds pushed -30 ° temp and created 3 ft. drifts of snow. When the count was over, 159 people froze to death in Minnasota.
More than half of them duck hunters. Remimber you ain’t got to go home, find shelter, build a fire, stay warm.
Barry Smith, American Sport Fisherman Hatchery, Troy Hiway, south of Montgomery, can furnish farm pond owners all the Shad you need to keep feed for Bass in your pond. He can also furnish Pink Minnows, Green Minnows, Yellow Minnows and they are all live and frisky.
This week Troy Arthur landed a fine string of Bass with a friend of his. They were as follows:
a 7, 2, and 5 and the balance of 2 limits at 2 to 4 lbs. a very nice catch. A limit catch of Bass was reported to us this week with one Jack Fish for me, however, the Jack hit the side of the livewell and back in the water he went. A Jack Fish will pass for a Sucker any day.
As some of you may know, one of the icons of Bass Fishing died in Langtry, OK, 100 miles north of Tulsa on Grand Lake.
I was asked to go with 3 others of the very early Bass Fishermen to his funeral. I accepted and went, not a dry eye in the church, it helt 200 with an adjoining room full also.
The preacher was a fisherman also and one with a sence of humor. When Ray Scott and Bob Cobb, who sed the eulogy, spoke of Don Butler being the only man ever to design a bait and win a Classic on it, Bob Cobb, at that time was the sports editor of the Tulsa Tribune, and they told of Butler winning on an S.O.B., the preacher hollered as loud as anyone else.
At 3pm in Fayetteville, Ark. it was 32 ° , wind at 30 M.P.H. A happy but sad event.
Ray Scott and Bob Cobb just returned home from entertaining troops in Iraq. While he was there, he met a soldier from Bainbridge who fished at Wingates.
Sorry, no pictures this week. Didn't take any.
