Seminole Ramlin's August 15, 2004 Basicly the Fishen was so interupted that we ain't got much to tell you bout Fishen in Seminole. This week however, it wernt all that bad. The Bassin Gals canceled the Saterday Tournement. With the above out of the way, I will scribble to you from George L. Smith State Park in Twin City Georgia. The Park is built around a lake on 15 Mile Creek, which runs into the Cannoochee River. The Dam, Sawmill, Gristmill was built in 1880. The gristmill ran until about 1955. It has a Hoss & Buggy covered bridge, a right pretty place. These tired eyes did look at the pretty clear water of the Canoochee River that the RiverKeepers formed a chapter here & brought suits against the polluters until they cleaned it up. Then I was shown Magnolia Springs near Millin, Georgia that flows a great stream of water so clear you can see a quarter 10 feet deep. This water is coming out of the Ocala strata of limestone. This is also where, thanks to the good supply of good water, that 10,299 Union Solders were moved from Andersonville, GA on Nov. 8th, 1864. The war was over pretty soon, but they were moved on toward Savannah when Sherman approached from Atlanta. That man was careless with matches. Then I was showed the old Rountree Log Home built in the 1790s later owned by the Coleman family. I am pretty sure this family ties to the speaker of the Ga. House of Representatives, Terry Coleman. It’s a double Pen Log and we think it was a mansion in those early days. We were also told about a church graveyard near Ailey, GA that a man is buried with no marker who represented Georgia at Republican National Conventions. When he came home they killed him. He was a black man. There is one thing here that’s the same as ours, a popping bug that glows in the nite works good here under the living cypress trees that grow in the water, Big ole Bream everywhere!
The picture is of Shelly Chandler and a group of friends from Florida who came up and caught 171 fish in one day's outing on the 10th in the rain.
