Seminole Ramlin's

April 4, 2004

It was, I think, 1963 when Outdoor Life Magazene printed a list of Georgia’s Best Bass Lakes. Lake Seminole was one of them. Vern Gaddis was in Atlanta at that time and saw the list. He was known nationwide as the “Flying Fisherman”, sponsored by an insurance company. He called and made arragemints to fish 4 days with a guide and a camera boat to follow.

He was the best Fly Rod man I have ever seen. He could put it in a tea cup 25 yards away. But a late cold snap put the Bass down and the Fly Rod failed to make a film. So we broke out the Spinning Reels. We made a film for him in one morning by noon. We had spent 2 days with the fly rod and failed. He had his first “Double” Bass caught on film from strike to netting. We then went to the dock to eat black eye peas, cornbread, onions and strawberry shortcake. The film was shown nationwide. It brought lots of Fishermen to the shores of Lake Seminole. Mr. Gaddis was from Vermont, then moved to the St. Johns River to fish out his life.

Speckle Perch seem to be doing OK for some but not good for others. There was one boat limited 3 days in a row. Others caught big slabs and not so many. The wind was a factor in Speck and Bass fishen.

A boat trip up the Flint produced some good Shoal Bass for Wayne Parrish and party even on Falling Water they caught good fish.

The Tallahassee Twins did a number on Bass Friday even in the high winds on Traps. Yours truly got in my licks with Top Water Baits. They tookem good and helt on.

The annual Lions Club Tournement of Shellcracker out of Spring Creek Park was a success. Jeff Saloan won it with 16.2 lbs. of Crackers. Jimmy Pearson was second with 13.7 lbs. Presley Whiticar was 3rd with 9.4 lbs. and he had Big Cracker with 1.3 lbs. which is a Big Cracker. A casting contest and pony rides were there for the little kids. The fish were cleaned and fried and a big time was had by all.

We look forward to Wingates annual June Bug Tournement the first Saterday in June. So many kids enjoy pullin Catfish, Bream, Bass and Perch. It’s a site to see a kids face on the first fish.

The Hybrids are still showing up below the dams, gooduns too.

The Madison County Bassmasters had a “set to” here on the Lake. On Saterday afternoon they weighed in near one hundred pounds of Bass with a 6.7 lbs. Big Fish.

me with a nice Bass I caught on March 28
