Seminole Ramlin's April 25, 2004 Southern Memorial Day was this past week, a time for the North and South Veterans to honor their dead after a terrible war. It is sed that on the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettesburg, train load after train load came to the site of the battle, both Northern and Southern Veterans. They were hovered in tents, fed grits, fried pork and greens, whatever could be found. There was a good amount of marching, singing and saluting the flags of both sides. As they began to leave, sorry, was the mood of the day, some with arms gone, legs off at the knee, thigh, ankle, both legs gone, eyes out, jaws and teeth gone. Some bent with what we call, the Ritous Boys. Fried meat grease on the top of a plate of grits was the food of the encampment. A great little family from Madison, Fla. fished Seminole on Saterday. They took 63 Bream, Crackers, Perch and one keeper Bass on crickets. The 5 year grandkid took the Bass and big Shellcracker. Bill Allen led an excursion into the Tates Hell area of Crooked River. He was very successful to have caught 105 Bream, Stumpknockers, Warmouth and a few small Bass, all on Beetle Spins on 4 lbs. test lines. The wind never let up. One of them 365° winds. The bite on Speckle Perch was so slow it was like a snail on a racetrack. It was so slow ever the weekend, some good Fishermen couldn’t get bit. The Bennett family from Palatka, Fla., some 24 Fishermen, had a family reunion here at Wingates over the weekend with great results on Bass. As of Sunday morning, one boat had weighed in 84 lbs. of Bass. There was 12 boats fishen. Only one boat was having a bit of trouble ketchen. Most of this group was father, son or cousin. Great way to have a family reunion. We must say a word about Mr. Russell Lowe of North Decatur County who turned 102 this past week. Congrats to Mr. Russell, he was 12 years old when the Titanic went down.
